Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miamiâs iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
âThis animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,â Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
âIf we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,â the mayor added. âMay this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.â
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting â6-7â â originating from a rap song lyric â often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made â6-7â its 2025 word of the year.
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge âaway from grills and cookwareâ, according to the organizers' announcement.
âThe pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the festive period,â said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
âIt represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Each year, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.â
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they toasted the pig's pardon.
