The network's Leading New Show of This Year Secures a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by cynicism, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and supported its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about watching this charming family navigate their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to experience the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.
