Mikel Arteta Hails a More Dependable Squad and Reveals Kai Havertz Setback.

Arsenal's manager has expressed confidence that his squad can continue to cope with player absences following confirming that forward Kai Havertz remains out for the coming weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

Havertz has been sidelined since August following knee surgery. Hoped to be available sooner, Arteta explained the player encountered a problem when stepping up his recovery and failed to reach “the next phase.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a team that is much more reliable and has more options,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture

This news creates a dilemma for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who scored playing out of position against Chelsea, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return after a fitness issue in the latter stages. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus remains in contention post-recovery.

Defensive Concerns Linger

More doubts involve defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Stamford Bridge game. As a result, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to start again in central defence for the table-toppers.

Arteta feels the significant outlay on new players ahead of this season has placed the club in a far better place to deal with such setbacks.

Squad Depth Key to Title Challenge

When asked if increased squad depth was benefiting their championship push, the manager agreed. “Yes, since the current term has presented greater challenges in some areas, and now what’s happening with the defence,” he continued.

“We learned from the past that we must deploy players in different positions, and they must be capable to perform various functions if we want to compete at the highest level. And the case of Mikel Merino.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Frustrated Havertz

Speaking about the delay noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided more insight. “His recovery was progressing. He failed to advance to the required step and now it appears like we have overcome that hurdle.”

Arteta expressed his keenness to see him return. “Everyone is eager to have him. I mean, it’s a player that, in my view, I love so much for what he brings to the team, but his personality, his attitude. I watch him struggle while sidelined.”

“His playing record is exceptional, he’s been always available, and I look forward to see him return with the squad on the pitch because I feel it’s going to be a significant uplift.”
