LBJ's Legendary Point-Scoring Streak Concludes, Yet Lakers Pull Off Victory Against Toronto.

The Lakers star knew his historic streak of reaching double digits was at risk. When it mattered most, however, it didn't concern him.

The smart move involved passing the ball – and he executed. Following that play, the legendary streak finished.

James's unprecedented run of 1,297 consecutive NBA regular season outings scoring at least ten ended during a recent game, when basketball's greatest scorer had only a mere eight points during the Los Angeles Lakers' 123-120 victory over the Toronto Raptors. He made the clutch helper, finding Rui Hachimura to hit a three-point shot at the buzzer.

“Zero,” James stated in response on the record concluding. “The important thing is we won.”

A Selfless Decision Seals the Game

He might have attempted to win the contest – and extended the streak – with the last shot, but he chose to make the extra pass to Hachimura in the left corner. Rui connected, with LeBron exulted immediately.

“Just playing the game correctly. Make the right play,” James noted. That is how I operate. It's how I was taught to play. I’ve done that for two decades.”

He is fully cognizant of his point total he's scored at all times,” said the team's head coach JJ Redick. He made the play just as he has throughout his career.”

The Record's Final Moments

He returned to the game one last time with under five and a half minutes to go, the result and the streak both hanging in the balance. At that stage, he had six points from 3-of-15 shooting at that juncture.

He got a bucket at under two minutes remaining to knot the score and missed a shot with one minute to go which could have gotten him to double digits.

He didn’t take another shot – even though he had a chance. Austin Reaves found him with a few seconds left, but James opted to make the pass instead of shooting.

“The basketball gods, if you approach it correctly, they will repay you,” Redick stated.

The History of an Unparalleled Run

The record began on Jan. 6, 2007. It was easily the most extended double-digit streak the league has ever seen: His Airness, Michael Jordan had 866 consecutive games with 10+ points, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had 787 such games, and The Mailman had the fourth-longest run of 575 games.

LeBron is such an unselfish player,” noted Lakers center Jake LaRavia.

He focuses on playing the sport. He had the opportunity but because of his nature as a player and his personality as an individual, he made the pass, found Rui and claimed the victory.”

Reaching double digits was usually an afterthought long before the start of fourth quarters. Throughout his run, he had achieved ten points by the start of the fourth 1,266 times coming into the contest.

However, two of those unusual single-digit games after three periods had occurred in the last week: He had nine entering the final quarter against Dallas on 28 November, and then had six points going into the fourth against Phoenix on Monday night.

LeBron was able to preserve the record in the Phoenix game. The very next outing, it concluded – and he celebrated anyway.

“I always just make the correct play. That comes naturally, no matter what,” James affirmed. “You make the smart play, the sports deities forever giving back to me.”
