Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was ā€œupbeatā€ during their latest talk.

ā€œWhat reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,ā€ Glenn said Wednesday. ā€œHis wife and child, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.ā€

The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

ā€œNot certain at the moment,ā€ he added. ā€œYet I must mention, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. And again, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he’s talking that way.ā€

New York police shared video stills Monday of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt were reported.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday about halfway between the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts ā€œa great dealā€ since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a child.

ā€œWhat immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,ā€ Glenn said. ā€œAnd I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
ā€œA certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.ā€

Boyd hasn’t played this season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.

He signed with New York as a new signing in spring and was projected as a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on August 2 and had to be helped off.

Boyd continued to be present throughout the season while working his way back.

ā€œHe has stayed engaged with the team,ā€ Glenn commented. ā€œI mean, he comes to the games all the time. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.ā€

Boyd, from Texas, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He joined Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with New York in March.
