Recently, the game developers launched a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few notable adjustments:
In short, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives more options for gamers looking for different ways to enjoy the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.
"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. So this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
